Jane Sawyer is arrested
for murder when her husband, Steve, dies while
they make love. She swears that it is nothing
more than a coincidence, but the police think
otherwise since Jane inherits a fortune from
her late husband. Tom Forman, Jane’s lawyer,
fights hard for her freedom and wins. He is
happy with the results and convinced of his
client’s innocence until he receives a
mysterious call and a videocassette.
The videocassette shows
the first time Steve and Jane Sawyer meet. It
also shows the two making love in the hotel
room. Tom wonders if there was ever more to
their relationship than love for sale. He begins
an investigation into Jane’s past with
the help of a journalist named Sandra Jackson,
Tom’s ex-girlfriend. The two exchange
more than information when they meet and catch
up on old times. Tom learns that Jane was a
call girl when she met Steve Sawyer and might
still be when he receives an escort advertisement
with a picture of Jane on it.
Tom soon learns that there is a connection with
the Mafia when Jane is arrested as part of a
prostitution ring ran by Freddy DeNitro. Freddy
knows Tom through his son, Joey DeNitro; the
two went to school together.
Tom finds himself defending Jane again. This
time, he is promised half of the twenty million
dollars Jane inherited from her late husband.
Once the trial is over, he goes over to Jane’s
apartment to collect his share.
When Tom arrives at Jane’s apartment he
is treated to a sexual reward only to find that
he is Jane and Freddy DeNitro’s next victim.
A hidden video camera captures Tom and Jane
talking about the death of her husband, but
Jane makes it appear that Tom helped her kill
him. Freddy DeNitro can use the tape to make
Tom do what he wants. He is now an accomplice
to murder.
Tom appears defeated but he is prepared for
Freddy and Jane’s scheme. He called Sandra
to have the entire chain of events videotaped
to be used on her next broadcast. The videotape
also shows Freddy and Jane confessing to conspiring
to murder Steve Sawyer, which leads to their
arrest. Tom walks away, without the money, but
with his pride in tact and a clear conscience.
