A writer, Michael, and his wife, Claire, take up residence in the house of a dead actress that was famous in the fifties. Her name was Valerie Parks, and her spirit awakens when the two discover a chest full of her personal belongings. One of the items that draws her spirit to the house is a print of the last film she was ever in but did not finish.

Claire, an actress herself, finds out that the studio Michael works for is making a remake of the film Valerie originally starred in. The spirit of Valerie Parks realizes this as the opportunity to finish what she started in the living world and tries several times to possess Claire, including bringing her into the spirit world, in order to accomplish her goal. She succeeds in possessing Claire and uses her body to seduce the producer of the film into casting her as the lead role in the film. Valerie takes over Claire and will remain forever in her body unless the film that brought her into the living world in the first place is destroyed by fire. Claire’s friends stay with her while Michael goes back to the studio where the film is located. He manages to burn the film before it is too late.
